CHRIS Kettlewell had rented out her Bendigo home and was living in another town. She returned one day to carry out some maintenance and decided there and then she would really like to live here again.

So she packed up all her possessions and moved back to Bendigo and into Queen Street, where she has been very content ever since. For her, the benefits of living in the CBD are many.
“I love the convenience of living here,” she says. “Everything is within walking distance. I can walk to the shops, the cafes and the cinema.”
Chris says her neighbors are great as well. They look out for each other without living in each others’ pockets.
“Whenever we are away for a weekend, neighbours will gladly take out bins or check mail,” Chris says.
“Our gardens are also shared with each other, swapping plant cuttings, seeds and produce.”
Having a part-time job at a nearby school is another advantage of this location.
“I walk to school and can easily stroll home for lunch,” Chris says.
“And it is such a pleasant walk through Rosalind Park when I pick grandchildren up from school. I avoid the bottleneck of traffic at the end of the school day. This gives me time to chat with them; and the bonus of exercise.
“Living in the CBD allows me to access transport and appreciate the seasonal changes in our city landscape, but also connects me to life in Bendigo.
“I often go down to Melbourne too, to visit the family, so I can walk to the railway station.
“My house was built well over 100 years ago and despite many of the original features being removed in the 1950s, it has retained a quaint character that fits into the streetscape.”
