A community celebration will start at 1pm on Saturday, November 22, in the former Shire Hall at Marong, to recognise this important anniversary.
The event will provide an opportunity for former staff, councillors and interested members of the community to meet and reflect on the Marong Shire.
Contact details are sought to ensure that invitations can be forwarded to all those who had a connection with the Marong Council.
The Marong Council was at times a family affair, with sons taking over the reins from their fathers and at least once, three generations of the one family served the ratepayers of Marong.
The foundation stone of the Shire Hall at Marong was laid on May 15, 1908, and was well attended.
Previously meetings were held at the Shire Hall in Lockwood.
The organising committee is seeking additional photographs, anecdotal material and other interesting snippets, for both a display and a publication, which will ensure that the complete story of the shire is told.
They can be contacted at PO Box 95 Marong 3515 or by phoning the president, Don McKinnon, on 5447 7615, secretary Bev Hanson on 5435 3689 or by "liking" us on Facebook.
