Dale Young to get job on Brendan Fevola

GOLDEN Square coach Nick Carter will give Dale Young first crack at stopping Brendan Fevola in the Bulldogs' Good Friday clash with Kangaroo Flat at Beck Legal Oval.

Fevola will make a cameo appearance for Kangaroo Flat in the big game.

Five-time premiership player Young and BFNL inter-league full-back Lachlan Woodward were Carter's two options to play on the controversial former Carlton and Brisbane star.

"Youngy has been our premier backman for a long period of time and he puts his hand up week in and week out to play on the big scalps,'' Carter said.

"He had a late start to pre-season, but he's had a couple of games under his belt now and he's pushing towards his best form."

That will leave Woodward to man up on his former Maryborough team-mate Cam Rinaldi.

Fevloa, who plays for Yarrawonga in the Ovens and Murray Football League, has made two other cameo appearances in the past fortnight.

He kicked 12 goals for Edenhope before heading to Western Australia where he kicked seven goals for Rockingham.

"The pressure in the midfield will determine the outcome of the game,'' Carter said.

"Putting aside that Fevola has the ability to kick multiple goals, Kangaroo Flat has a very good side and they've shown that in two good performances this year.

"It's not just their forward line we need to worry about. We need to focus on their midfield and their back half as well."

Golden Square has looked a shadow of its former self in the opening two rounds of the BFNL season.

The Bulldogs lost to Strathfieldsaye in round one before sneaking home by one point against South Bendigo.

With Rick Ladson and Corey Jones still sidelined by injury, Carter will rely on a youthful squad.

"The hype and pressure of round one against Strathfieldsaye was a good lead in game for us,'' Carter said.

"There's similar hype for the Good Friday game which is great for Kangaroo Flat and the league.

"The focus for our players is what our individuals can contribute to the team.

"We know from our two games that we have some things to correct. The message this week will be play your role, improve and forget about everything else that comes with the day."
