AN EAST Bendigo export group will help aspiring primary school teachers studying at La Trobe University to undertake placements in rural and remote classrooms.

Kluwell Publications has announced an educational bursary fund, which will provide five scholarships, worth $10,000 each to students at the Bendigo campus studying a Bachelor of Education and who aspire to teach at a primary school.
Kluwell Publications' directors Andrew Coldwell and Stan Kluzek said they knew all too well the challenges the education industry faced.
"As university students we were required to relocate from home to complete our educational degrees," Mr Coldwell said.
"We fully understand the financial barriers facing students from rural and remote locations.
"The aim of the Kluwell Publications scholarships is to ease the financial burden facing students from rural and remote locations, and to encourage and support them in achieving their aspirations to become quality regional educators."
The scholarships will be targeted at supporting students studying primary education who have relocated from regional areas to Bendigo to pursue their degrees.
There will be five four-year awards commencing in 2014.
A $10,000 bursary pool will also be established to provide financial assistance to students undertaking practicum placements in rural and remote areas.
La Trobe University Bendigo head of campus Robert Stephenson welcomed the scholarships.
"We are extremely grateful to Kluwell Publications for these generous scholarships" he said.
"La Trobe University is committed to its regional campuses and initiatives such as this are a tremendous way of supporting our students.
"Partnerships between local organisations and La Trobe University make a significant contribution to regional communities as around 70 per cent of our students will stay in rural and regional locations once they graduate."
The first scholarship will be presented at a ceremony on July 23.
