Bendigo Miners hand out lesson to Monash University

THE Keech Australia-backed Bendigo Miners scored a comprehensive 41-8 victory in Saturday’s rugby union match against Monash University.

Bendigo ran in seven tries and had the four-try bonus point wrapped up by half-time at Epsom-Huntly Reserve.

The Miners forwards were backed by some big-hitting defence and strong running by forwards and backs.

Negatives for the Miners were a lopsided penalty count of 18-7, poor goalkicking and an injury to half-back Josh Manderson.

Monash scored a penalty goal in the 13th minute.

Bendigo hit back with a try by big prop Jesse Tuitupou.

Joseph Drahm ran in two tries and Josephar Maiai added the other.

Monash scored a try in the 20th minute of the second half and had kept Bendigo scoreless.

Scorers: Draham 3, Maiai 2, Jesse Tuitupou, Elijah Faia; Keech three goals.

Bendigo is at home on April 26 against Eltham.
