A central Victorian client of Elders donated the lambs under the Lamb for Life banner and organisers hope the event will become an annual fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House.
"They (the donor) are local to Bendigo but want to remain anonymous. They have helped tremendously in raising some good dollars," said Nigel Starick, Elders livestock manager and auctioneer.
"Ït was a fantastic auction. This is something we (Elders) have been wanting to do for a while, we would like to make it an annual event where we can raise money for Ronald McDonald House," Mr Starick said.
"It started because one of our clients' sons and a colleague's daughter spent time in hospital. If you haven't had to use Ronald McDonald House, you probably know someone who did.
"Everyone connected with the Bendigo lamb market aims to make this an annual event and conduct an auction just before Easter.
"It was tremendous turnout and bidding was vigorous and we achieved a fantastic result for a good cause."
The auction grossed $400 per head, with five major buyers picking up two lambs each.
The five buyers were Coles Supermarkets, Wagstaff of Cranbourne, Thomas Foods International in Murray Bridge South Australia, JBS Swift in Brooklyn and Australian Lamb Company from Colac.
Mr Starick said the event was a full donation to charity with all fees and auction costs waived by the auctioneers.
"Elders is happy to help out and raise money for a worthy cause. It's a full donation to charity with all fees and costs donated by them," he said.
