The youngest participant was aged 15 years old, while the oldest is in her 90s.
St Arnaud's Ian Batters will compete in the men's pairs today, alongside his partner David Dunlop.
Mr Batters said this was the first time he had competed in a state championships and he thought it was "a pretty fair effort".
"It is a good social event," he said.
"If you want to be competitive you can.
"You meet a lot of good people."
Mr Batters said bowls was a good sport for retirees however it was becoming more and more popular with the younger generation.
"It used to be an older person's game," he said.
"But now, if you look at the Commonwealth Games team they are all young people."
Mr Batters said if he was not competing in the championships, he would still come to spectate.
"We are only an hour away," he said.
"I would still come and have a look.
"It's top class bowls."
Benella's Kerri Leask agreed the championships was a great social outing for all ages.
"I have met some great people," she said.
"I love the game and the social side of it adds to it all."
Ms Leask said she took up the sport about seven years ago after playing tennis and basketball most of her life.
She said she did not think it would produce enough action for her but said she was proved wrong.
"Once I got into it I found there was a lot of strategy involved," she said.
"I really enjoy it."
