Jones was happy with the effort of his side in the first and third quarters, but bitterly disappointed with the Gold's output in the second and fourth terms.
The result was a 24.13 (157) to 11.8 (74) defeat to the Tigers at Craigieburn's Highgate Recreation Reserve.
"It was very much a game of two halves today," Jones said.
"I was very happy with our first and third quarters, but our second and fourth quarters were horrible.
"The good parts of our game today were some of the roles we gave to our players.
"Liam Byrne in his second game in the VFL played on Jarred Moore and was huge for us.
"Jordan Hargreaves in his first game played on Majak Daw and had a win.
"Tyrone Downie was good again, Alik Magin was super and Jesse Wallin was brilliant, so they were some of the real positives."
However, Jones was scathing on the negative aspects of the Gold's performance, particularly on elements of selfish football.
"The reason for the not so good is I think we have some blokes who are maybe just getting a bit ahead of themselves and aren't prepared to do the work... they just want the reward," Jones said.
"We'll find the guys who want to work hard and do all the right things, rather than play a selfish brand of footy that I won't tolerate.
"With where we're at, the margin and the results will be what they'll be, but I won't stand for blokes who think they are bigger than the team, so that's something we'll work on."
Just as they had done against Geelong last week, the Gold led at quarter-time, 4.2 to 3.1.
They also outscored the Tigers 5.4 to 4.0 during the third term.
But in the Gold's ordinary second and fourth quarters, the Tigers kicked 17.12 to 2.2.
Jarrod Bacon kicked three goals for the Gold, while Billy McInnes and Alik Magin added two each.
The Gold now have a short turnaround before hosting Essendon at the Queen Elizabeth Oval on Friday from 2.30pm.
