Mount Pleasant defeated White Hills by just eight goals on Saturday afternoon.
It was the closest margin from across the A-grade Heathcote District Netball Association competition.
The final score was 32-24.
Griffin said she was happy with her team’s good start.
“For us White Hills is the benchmark in the competition, we always knew it was going to be a tough game,” he said.
“We had a good start, it was pleasing.”
Griffin said the girls played patient netball.
“We were probably up against the best defence combination in the league,” she said.
“I thought Ash Cole was good and Ebony Matthews was able to control the game.”
White Hills coach Jody Chant praised her team’s efforts to stay in the match.
“We had a poor start,” she said.
“The margin got out to 10 goals in the first quarter.
“We worked hard to get back in the match and we reduced the margin back to five goals, but then it got away from us again.”
Chant said disappointing mistakes had cost the team.
“We missed some opportunities but in saying that I was pleased with how we finished the game," she said.
White Hills defenders Dannielle Sawyer and Janene Cass were named among the best by Chant.
“We are still developing the midcourt and the goaling area,” she said.
“Our defenders are probably the most experienced.
“Both Dannielle and Janene showed a lot of leadership on the court.”
In other HDNA games, North Bendigo defeated Huntly, Colbinabbin defeated Leitchville/Gunbower and Lockington-Bamawm United also scored a win over Heathcote.
In the Loddon Valley Netball League YCW has picked up where it left off last season by winning successive games.
YCW defeated Pyramid Hill in round one by 29 goals and on Saturday the Eagles won by 39 against Marong.
YCW coach Christie Griffiths said her team was cruising, early on in the season.
“We were three players down,” she said.
“We had some players come in and fill those roles.
“It can be hard if you don’t have the players, so it was good to see the girls keep going.”
Mitiamo, Calivil United and Newbridge also scored wins.
