RSPCA Bendigo is offering to waive the adoption fee for cats over the age of four months until April 24.
RSPCA Bendigo shelter manager Mark Goodwin is hoping for positive outcomes from the offer.
"We are holding capacity at the moment," he said.
"We have an array of cats here from one to three years old.
"We'd like to raise awareness of responsible cat ownership.
"Microchipping is key to cat ownership and keeping the information updated is just as important.
"If the details aren't up-to-date then it's useless."
The RSPCA said adult cats were lower maintenance than juvenile cats.
"They're equally great companions but are less destructive, more independent.
"They are lower maintenance and have fully formed personalities.
"You know what you are getting.
"All RSPCA adoption animals are microchipped, desexed, health-checked and behaviour tested.
"If you're considering buying a cat, adopt with RSPCA instead."
RSPCA Bendigo will offer the no adoption fee deal until April 24.
