The pair both volunteer with the Golden Square Fire Brigade and were at the Bendigo farmers' market at the weekend raising money for the CFA.
Mr Barnes started volunteering 12 years ago and said he enjoyed the team work.
"It is something I really enjoy doing," he said.
"There is a great team environment.
"We get together and get the job done, that is one of the main things."
Mr Green has been with the brigade for about seven years and said he had been looking for a new experience.
"I get a lot of fulfillment out of it," he said.
"Lots of different experiences.
"I have made a good bunch of friends."
Both Mr Barnes and Mr Green said they would recommend volunteering.
"It is a really good experience, the opportunities you get are fantastic," Mr Barnes said.
"It is a life changing experience," added Mr Green.
The Golden Square Fire Brigade is made up of about 60 operational staff who are all volunteers.
