Bendigo TAFE acting chief executive Peter Coyne has confirmed he is in the later stages of talks with Melbourne's Kangan Institute about a possible merger.
However, a final decision has not been made.
“This is the end result of (Victorian Premier) Denis Napthine’s $1.2 billion TAFE cuts," Ms Edwards said.
"Bendigo looks set to lose its own TAFE identity which would hurt local students and employers.
“Bendigo TAFE has been forced to sack 150 staff and slash 36 courses.
"Yet that wasn’t enough for Denis Napthine and now his cuts are forcing this take-over by a Melbourne-based TAFE ... Bendigo TAFE will be just an out-post of a northern Melbourne institute."
