As the name suggests, it’s been something of a haven for Kelly and her two children Carrie and Sam who’ve grown up among its neat gardens and friendly neighbours.
“There’s a really lovely mix of retirees and young families living in the street,” Kelly says. “We don’t live in each other’s pockets, but we all get on really well. Nothing’s ever too hard.
“We’re even having a joint garage sale between three of the houses in the coming weeks. It’s always been nice to feel that support. We even have a policeman living in the street.”
When Kelly first moved to Peace Street there were empty blocks next door. In her 12 years as a resident she has seen both the street and the whole area develop.
“Many of the homes in the street were built by local builder Tony Floreani back in the late 1990s. Our home was one of his original display homes.
“I think one of the things that makes Peace Street so special is that all the houses on the south side of the street back onto the Charcoal Gully Bushland Reserve. It not only means that everyone has a lovely bush backdrop, but it’s also very quiet and brings lots of birdlife.
“The location is perfect because you can walk to everything. We’re just a couple of minutes walk to the supermarkets and other Kangaroo Flat shops, there’s a pre-school around the corner in Helm Street, and Crusoe College and the Primary School are close by too.
“It’s going to be a hard place to leave. Peace Street has been a big part of our lives.”
