THE Chinese Association is drumming up support to raise money for the Bendigo Hospital this Easter.
Treasurer Tan See Tuang said the Chinese connection to the parade was part of a long tradition the community had of raising money for the hospital.
“The Bendigo Asylum looked after the early Chinese community,” he said.
“If you drink water you must remember the source.
“The Chinese community donated 100 pounds to the first hospital which would be tens of thousands today.
"For the Chinese community in Bendigo, Easter is bigger than Chinese New Year.
“Traditionally I go around the Chinese restaurants to get donations for the hospital but anyone can donate.
“Whatever we raise goes to the hospital.”
