The couple sold their Hawthorn apartment and came to live with their son Max, 2, in a house on Malcolm Street, a wide leafy street in Quarry Hill.
Mrs Haw says they love the house and the street.
“It is a lovely street,” she says.
“We are from Bendigo originally but we moved to Melbourne.
“Then we sold our apartment and this happened to be for sale at the right time so we bought this house.
“We just reached a certain point when we thought if we don’t leave Melbourne we would be there forever so we moved back.
“This is a good place to raise a family and it is all about affordability.
“When you compare it to an apartment in Melbourne; for less money you can get all this.
“We couldn’t have a house like this in Melbourne.
“We moved for the lifestyle.”
Mrs Haw said one of the best things about the street is the neighbours.
“Everyone is really friendly and we catch up at Christmas and we frequently chit-chat on the nature strip,” says Mrs Haw.
“It is perfect for a family.
“There are other kids in the street, there is one across the road and some have moved in on the corner.
“The kids can play on the nature strip.
“It is a nice wide street.
“It is just quiet and so close to town.
“It is a bit of a through road but ever since you can only turn one way on Carpenter Street it has slowed the traffic down.”
Mrs Haw said they have no intentions of moving.
“We liked the street so much we didn’t want to move but we wanted a bigger house so we put an upstairs extension on the house 12 months ago which gives us a couple of extra bedrooms.
“It is nice as you can’t really see it from the street and it doesn’t take away from the character of the house.
“The house is 100-years-old but it still looks nice.
“My favourite memory is bringing our son home and being a family.”
