Quentin Bryce, as I would have expected, failed dismally.
In the age of conspicuous compassion, conspicuous awards and conspicuous celebration it is somewhat a surprise that these imperial honours are so impugned; but then again, it is the natural default position of tired old socialists to eschew anything that is remotely related to the monarchy.
One good thing about the change of Governor-General will be that I expect enormous savings on the wardrobe (budget) which was the preoccupation of the opposition leader's mother-in-law.
