The Victorian Rifle Association, which is based in Bendigo, is hosting the Victorian State Championships.
The Syme Shoot competition began at the Wellsford Rifle Range on Wednesday and will run on Thursday and Friday before the prestigious Queens Prize is up for grabs on Saturday and Sunday.
Shooters will aim to hit targets that are between 300 and 1000 yards.
Victorian Rifle Association councillor Ken Reither said this event was the biggest competition held within the state each year.
“The Queens Prize is a pretty big event,” he said.
"People come from all over to compete, this year we have some international competitors.
“The winner receives a significant trophy and cup with the winner also carried on chair in a special ceremony.”
