Wedding date Friday November 8, 2013
The meeting:
WE met through our hairdresser, as strange as that seems. Ben came along to the horse riding club, where I rode, and I spotted him across the other side of the oval and thought he wasn’t bad looking. We hit it off and I introduced him to my horse and offered him a ride. He said he hadn’t been riding long. I rode this same horse to our wedding ceremony five years later.
The proposal:
Ben had only met my grandparents a couple of times so on the Easter weekend in 2012 we headed down to Rosebud to visit them.
We drove down on Good Friday, braved the Melbourne traffic and finally arrived at their house. After a chat and a catch up we rang a courtesy bus and headed to the Rye RSL Club.
We sat down and chatted, stood for the Ode at 6pm the sat back down. I looked across at Ben and he was shaking like a leaf which I thought was a little odd. He looked at me and said “Oh, I can’t do this anymore”.
I was a little worried to say the least as he looked like he was going to be sick. He got down on one knee, in front of my grandparents, and asked me to marry him.
I think we all nearly fainted. My grandparents were so proud to be involved as I was the first grandchild to get engaged.
The wedding day:
The months that led up to our special day just seemed to fly by. The night before the wedding we all went out for tea and then returned to the Wakiti Creek Resort where we were staying.
The morning of the wedding came around and I was as cool as a cucumber, unlike my mother and mother-in-law. Our time spent in hair and make-up seemed to fly by, thanks to the wonderful ladies at Milewa Spa Retreat in Echuca.
Our ceremony was perfect; Ben and I rode our horses to the waiting group of family and friends. After the ceremony, which was full of laughs, we mounted our horses, the horses bowed (as we had trained them to do especially for the wedding) and we rode off together.
Our reception was so much fun and every single guest had a fantastic time. We practised for many months and showcased our “Time of Our Life” wedding dance (including the lift) to friends and family.
The dress:
My dress was strapless ivory satin with beading, diamantes, and pearls as the centrepiece. It had lace spread amongst the skirting and a lace trim around the bottom of the skirt. My mid-length veil also had matching lace and beading.
The cake:
We wanted our cake to represent our fun-loving country personalities. It was a fully western-themed chocolate mud cake with a boot on the top and ropes, sheriff badge, horseshoes and a belt.
The photography:
The photos were taken by Kim James Photography, who has a great personality and creativity and made the day so much easier.
The honeymoon:
The happy couple went to Cairns and Port Douglas
