THE Emus were unable to make it back-to-back flags after running into a red-hot United in the grand final.
Their premiership defence couldn’t have got off to a better start when they won their first five games to sit on top of the ladder, before suffering a mid-season slip-up with back-to-back losses to Spring Gully and Marong.
Finished third on the ladder and defied the odds in a rain-affected semi-final against Golden Gully beat the Cobras by 72 runs to earn their crack at back-to-back flags.
Anthony Collins (37 wickets) and Simon Marwood (33) shouldered a heavy load with the ball as they combined for 70 of the 131 wickets the Emus took for the season.
In what was a superb all-round season, Marwood (497 runs) was also dominant with the bat.
