The man, aged in his 20s, collided with the rear of a truck at the intersection of the Avoca-Talbot Road and the Pyrenees Highway at Bung Bong about 9am.
Maryborough Police Acting Sergeant Steve Atkinson said it appeared the motorcyclist had been riding too close to the middle of the road.
He said the accident was no fault of the truck driver.
"(The motorcyclist) and truck were coming towards each other along a sweeping bend," he said.
"The bike has clipped the rear of the truck and we believe he was driving too close to the white line."
He said Central Goldfields Highway Patrol was still investigating the fatality.
