Bendigo Community Telco put on a NBN connectivity update breakfast on Thursday morning with a number key businesses leaders in attendance. 

NBN general manager of product marketing and service provider Timothy Smith was a guest speaker at the event. 

Mr Smith spoke about the benefits the NBN could have for businesses in Bendigo and the progress of the roll out across the city. 

Bendigo Community Telco business development general manager Adam Murdoch said there were a number of technologies through the NBN that could help businesses. 

He said the NBN would improve productivity, give better access to new markets and cut costs on business phone, internet and inter-office communication. 

He said it would allow local businesses to compete on a global scale. 

"Some of these services that are available they really only possible or work properly over high (connection) and that is what NBN is bringing us," he said. 

"There is a lot less risk (for businesses) too.

"They don't have to have all the equipment on site and can just be provided with it through their date service.

"It reduces risk, adds productivity - there are lots of benefits." 

Mr Murdoch said the NBN was available to 7000 households in Greater Bendigo, including Longlea, Lockwood South and Eppalock. 

He said it would still be about 12 to 18 months before the NBN would be rolled out in central Bendigo. 

Mr Murdoch said BTC was a direct NBN retail service provider and households that want the service could get it through the business. 

"Was they start deploying in Bendigo they will roll that right through," he said. 

"It's more economical to have their teams work in an area and finish then move on."
