Bendigo Police Sergeant Damian Keegan said drivers should make a conscious effort to drive to the conditions of the road.
"Drivers need to slow down and allow an increased amount of time to get to their destination," he said.
"They should allow a sufficient distance between their vehicle and the one in front.
"People can become complacent and drive as if it is a dry day.
"They need to remember it is wet and to slow down."
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting rain for most of Thursday in Bendigo, with showers to ease into the afternoon.
A top of 23 degrees is expected for the city.
