THE Australian Gliders wheelchair basketball team is enduring mixed fortunes during its tour of North America ahead of the 2014 world titles.
The squad, which includes Harcourt-raised Shelley Chaplin, were beaten 50-64 by the US women in their opening match of the Lakeshore Cup tournament in Alabama on Tuesday.
The loss follows their 2-2 record at the four-nation Toronto Challenge, a test event for the world championships in the Canadian city in June.
The Gliders were too strong for Japan, but went down 76-73 to the host nation. They dropped a tight game against the Netherlands, then turned the tables on Canada 58-55.
