The incident occurred about 5.40am yesterday on the Kinsellas/Bawden Road in Woodend.
The woman swerved to avoid hitting a kangaroo but hit a tree.
SES, police and paramedics were called to the scene to rescue the trapped woman; her male passenger escaped injury.
The Ambulance Victoria air wing was called to the scene, but could not land due to fog.
The woman was transported to Melbourne via road ambulance.
