BDCA: Bendigo United 6-283 d Golden Square 119
BENDIGO United dominated with bat and ball to romp to a comprehensive 164-run win over Golden Square in the weekend's Bendigo District Cricket Association grand final.
Inspired by two of the team's veterans in Matt Pinniger and Nick Crawford, the flag was the Redbacks' 17th in their history, and their sixth since 2000.
On the back of a brilliant 115 from opening batsman Pinniger on Saturday that earned him the Taylor-Walsh Medal as the grand final's best player, the Redbacks plundered 6-283 off their 85 overs after winning the toss at the Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Ben Gunn (57) provided fine support to Pinniger, with the pair putting on 101 for the second wicket that batted the Redbacks into control.
On Sunday, Golden Square made a positive start to its challenging run-chase before collapsing to be bowled out for 119 inside 50 overs.
Golden Square had been 1-59, before its last nine wickets tumbled for just 60 runs.
Not for the first time in a grand final against Golden Square, off-spinner Crawford was the destroyer with the ball, taking 5-28 off 10.1 overs.
Meanwhile, the QEO outfield and wicket was presented superbly by the City of Greater Bendigo curators.
