But club officials and online moderators need to know how to manage their online world well to make sure their Facebook, Twitter and other sites are positive places to be.
This and other important issues will be covered at a "How Social Media Savvy is Your Club?" workshop for female sporting administrators in Bendigo on April 2.
Hosted by Sports Focus and Vicsport, the seminar is being presented by Loren Bartley, director of social media education company Impactiv8.
Bartley will look at basic social media trends, how and why clubs use Facebook, Twitter, etc, and how to develop an appropriate strategy for your club.
She will also discuss how officials can protect themselves and their members from "social media nightmares".
The workshop is part of the Female Administrators Network program, which helps women establish links within the sporting sector.
All current and prospective female administrators are invited to attend.
It will be held at Weeroona Oval Pavilion from 6.30-9pm on Wednesday, April 2. Cost is $25 ($40 for two from the same club), with discounts for Sports Focus members.
To book, contact Zita Waldron-Brown at Sports Focus on 5442 3101.
