Families came together in Victoria Park before marching through the town as part of the nationwide March in March protests.
Event organiser Amy Sattler said it was a great day.
"We had a broad range of banners covering marriage equality, to refugees, to teachers calling for funding and children saying it is their future too,” she said.
“The whole aim of the day was to channel the anger and acknowledge that people are angry, but to keep it peaceful.
“I think it is really important that the people are represented.
“A lot of people across Australia are not happy.
“They feel scared about what has happened and what is going to happen, and we want to acknowledge that, and see a change.”
According to the event website, the total number of marchers across the country was estimated at 52,920.
A signed petition will be presented in Canberra on Monday.
