UPDATE 4.55pm: Rain is clearing and a track inspection is under way at the BJC.
No sign yet of horses for the Golden Mile leaving the stabling area.
EARLIER: A THUNDERSTORM has caused an indefinite delay to the Yalumba Golden Mile race meeting at the Bendigo Jockey Club.
Lightning and thunder surrounded the course giving stewards no option but to delay the meeting.
Heavy rain started to fall 20 minutes before the scheduled start of the Yalumba Golden Mile.
The Bureau of Meteorology has also issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of central Victoria.
Locations that may be affected include the Central, Mallee and parts of the South West, Northern Country, North Central and Wimmera Forecast Districts.
The SES is advising people to keep clear of fallen power lines, stay indoors, switch off electrical appliances and avoid using the phone.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours.
The next warning is due to be issued by 5:40pm.
