THE Bendigo Jockey Club hits the national racing stage on Saturday with the running of the Yalumba Golden Mile meeting.
This year marks the third time the BJC has hosted the feature race meeting.
"Last weekend Bendigo had an international event in the madison and the Spirit won a national title,'' BJC chairman Brendan Drechsler said.
"This weekend Bendigo hosts Victoria's premier race meeting for the weekend with more than $1million prizemoney on offer and it has national exposure on free to air television.
"That is just sensational for Bendigo. I wouldn't think there would be a regional centre in Australia that can match the week Bendigo has had."
The Golden Mile meeting is the richest country raceday in Australia and it has attracted a who's who of the racing industry.
"The BJC has always seen it as a great honour to host the feature Saturday morning,'' Drechsler said.
"We think the event has improved each year and we're hoping the Bendigo public gets behind it again this year."
The meeting has a relaxed racing theme, with families encouraged to have a picnic on the lawn.
A band will perform on the lawn and there will be a children's entertainment area.
Bendigo's Alana Conway will sing Fields Of Gold prior to the running of the Golden Mile.
Adult tickets are $20, concession $15 and children under-16 are free.
The first race is at 1pm, with the final event at 5.40pm.
