Scott and I were and still are both members of the same gym in Richmond. I do recall seeing Scott once or twice, but the gym was the last place either of us expected to meet someone!
Scott will argue this point, but I was informed by one of Scott’s friends that he had his eye on me for quite some months and had once remarked ‘The Girl in the Chelsea FC Cap smiled at me today!’
It was early doors one Friday morning and I had finished up my run on the treadmill and was then attempting to use the dip bars when Scott approached me and decided to remark cheekily as to whether I was a genuine Chelsea supporter or simply liked wearing the cap.
Well, being a London girl born and bred, one can only imagine how that comment went down. Sparks flew, we exchanged numbers and in the following days Scott asked me out on a date.
The proposal:
We were camping our way back along the beautiful Great Ocean Road from Adelaide after Christmas 2012. We had stopped off at the Otway fly after the Apostles and decided to do the Rainforest tree top walk.
We were on top of the tower looking out at the stunning view for a while with all the other twenty or so tourists! When everyone started their descent back down the tower, I went to follow suit until weirdly, Scott wanted to stay up for a little longer! I followed his lead and walked across the top of the tower again where he got down on one knee and proposed!
It definitely made the Guinness book of Records for the quickest proposal in history as he could hear the next load of tourists walking their way up the tower and wanted to get it out before they caught him in the act.
The wedding day:
Scott and I thoroughly enjoyed planning our wedding. We are a very laid back couple and luckily for us we make decisions easily.
We wanted a casual garden ceremony so found the Botanical Gardens, Nymphea Lake West a perfect setting. We then arranged for a boat to transport our 140 guests from the ceremony to the reception on a scenic hour long cruise along the Yarra River.
Everyone tells you that your wedding day is the best day of your life but NOTHING prepares you for just how seriously overwhelmed with happiness you feel when the day arrives!
To have everyone that we both love and hold so dear from all over the world present to share in our special day is a once in a lifetime feeling.
There were so many surprises on the day, from my prerecording our first dance to ‘At Last’ by Etta James, to one of our friends and four other dancers surprising us with an unbelievable dancing extravaganza on the night, feather headdresses and all. It exceeded our expectations and then some!
The dress:
Dad took me to a bridal shop in Adelaide over Christmas and my wedding dress turned out to be the very first dress I tried on.
I had it altered back in Melbourne as it was still a little too big and when I was in the process I decided to re-design it and make it a stunning fish tail gown as well!
It was a multi-layered net antique (not genuinely antique) strapless lace dress.
I have never felt more beautiful in all my life.
The cake:
Our cake was a wedding present from a very close friend, Jo Gee. The actual cake was from French Lettuce and it was a stunning combination of chocolate, chocolate bits and nuts throughout (wedding cake tasting is the best and should not be missed)
Jo Gee did an outstanding job in decorating it our vintage theme in a thick white rough icing and finished it with a beautiful wiry green ivy and fresh peonies, presented on a rustic slice of bark.
The photography:
Being a professional photographer myself, there was only one person in the world I would have to shoot my own wedding and that was Grant Hoskinson.
He is the man responsible for training me to shoot weddings and remains the best photographer I know, not to mention a great friend. He flew over from Sydney and shot our wedding free of charge. Yes, we were spoilt.
The honeymoon:
We went to Langkawi, an Island off Malaysia. It was the perfect ending to our perfect wedding.
