HOW do WNBL champions celebrate their success?
A dip in the pool, a barbecue and a few quiet beverages.
The Bendigo Spirit squad lapped up the hospitality of Bendigo Toyota’s Paul and Sue DeAraugo on Monday.
Despite a long night of celebrations after their stunning 94-83 win over Townsville in Sunday’s WNBL grand final, the players were in good health.
While Kelsey Griffin was a unanimous choice as grand final MVP, the MVP for Sunday’s celebrations went to guard Maddie Garrick.
“Maddie was clearly the best performer,’’ Krist Harrower said with a grin.
At 39, Kristi’s best partying days are well behind her, but she was pleased with how she kept up with the “young ones”.
“I made it until closing time (3am), so that was pretty good for me,’’ Kristi said.
“I played it smart and didn’t drink too much.”
Even the coach Bernie Harrower didn't get home until 3am.
At 3am Bernie didn't want to sleep.
"I got home and watched the replay of the game on TV,'' Bernie said.
"As the game was being played I knew it was a high quality game, but watching the replay reinforced that it was a great game to showcase our sport."
Bernie said Monday's celebration was a great way for the team to relax.
"I think everyone is exhausted and relieved,'' Bernie said.
"It was such an intense day on Sunday.
"After having such a dominant year there was the weight of expectation leading into the final.
"There was a fear of failure, so the way we got out of it was very pleasing.
"The girls have put in a huge amount of work and they deserve the success.
"Everyone should be very proud of them."
Celebrations will continue on Thursday, with Minister for Sport Hugh Delahunty inviting the Spirit squad to lunch at Parliament House in Melbourne.
