A four-person fatality at Burramboot near Elmore on Saturday night, a fatality in Harcourt North on Monday afternoon and another fatality at Archdale near Maryborough on Sunday afternoon claimed the lives of four men and two women.
Bendigo Highway Patrol acting Senior Sergeant Della Nihill said it was devastating that despite the added police presence, six people were now dead.
"We had every available Bendigo member work this weekend, the State Highway Patrol was here in central Victoria, we had the Melbourne booze bus," she said.
"Unfortunately our best wasn't good enough."
She said Bendigo had been dubbed a "high-risk" area following several fatal accidents over the last five years.
"We will keep doing what we're doing by having a specific police operations and a high police presence on central Victorian roads," she said.
"But it's clear that more education needs to take place within the community about the consequences of what can happen if you are irresponsible."
Acting Senior Sergeant Nihill said police were pleading with people to slow down, take time and adhere to the road rules.
"We need people to realise they are not invincible," acting Senior Sergeant Nihill said.
"Country people are dying on country roads - that is as clear as ever.
"And if something does happen where you are killed, it doesn't just impact you. It impacts on emergency personnel, the families and the community for many years to come."
She urged people to report hoon behaviour and unlicensed and unregistered behaviour to Bendigo Police.
The fatal collisions occurred in Harcourt North, Burramboot, near Elmore, and Archdale, near Maryborough.
A woman, 79, died after a two-car collision on the Calder Freeway at Harcourt North yesterday afternoon.
A Bendigo woman, 84, also died after her car veered off the road and hit a tree in Archdale near Maryborough on Sunday afternoon.
Adding to the horror, two teenagers and two men in their 50s were killed in a head-on collision that occurred just before 10pm on Saturday on the Heathcote-Rochester Road in Burramboot.
Police are investigating speed, alcohol and irresponsible behaviour as possible causes of the four-person fatality.
