After watching his side give its all in a 94-83 loss to Bendigo in the WNBL grand final, Lucas said he'd love to see the league bring in a best of three finals series.
"Imagine if we went to Townsville now to play on Thursday night and then came back to Bendigo next Sunday to do it again,'' Lucas said.
"I think we need to think outside the square to take this league to another level... the same as Europe, the WNBA and bring in a finals series.
"That's not because of the result today, I've been saying it for 10 years.
"It would be great for our game. We're attracting high quality imports now - Kelsey Griffin is just a star.
"It was a great game of basketball today. Obviously, we're not happy to come second, but someone had to."
Fire star Suzy Batkovic echoed Lucas' comments.
"Every other league has best of three or best of five,'' Batkovic said.
"The big question is, why don't we?
"We need to show the rest of the world that we are a great league and we have great players coming out of here."
