The Bendigo Spirit centre had a tough time in the first three quarters of the WNBL grand final.
Going into the final quarter her personal stats of five points and three rebounds were well down on her regular output.
When times are tough you find out just how good your players are.
In the final quarter, with her team holding on to a one-point lead, Richards took over.
In the first two minutes of the final quarter she scored four points, made a big defensive stop and grabbed a huge offensive board.
Her play sparked a 9-0 run for the Spirit and tore the heart out of the Fire.
Richards' 11 points and three boards for the final term sealed the win for the Spirit.
"It was a hard slog, but I knew if I could keep being aggressive it would turn,'' Richards said.
"I'm really happy that I made an impact in the final quarter.
"Really I was just following the efforts of all the other girls. It was a great team effort."
