The woman was driving in a 100km/h zone on Kerang-Koondrook Road yesterday when the rake hit her windshield.
It is unclear if the rake fell from a passing car or was flicked up by a passing car.
First Constable Travis Collier said it was a freak accident.
"The 50-year-old woman received minor cuts from the windshield breaking," he said. "She went to hospital but was quickly released.
"A couple of inches to the side and the rake would have hit her square in the face."
Police are searching for the passing motorist. Anyone with information should contact Kerang police.
