With the Demons needing to beat Kangaroo Flat to be any chance of climbing into the top four, the game is on a knife-edge following an extraordinary first day of play at Dower Park last Saturday.
The Demons' finals hopes looked shot when they were bundled out for just 79, but they charged back into the game to have the Roos 9-63 at stumps.
Another loss on Saturday would not only extend the Demons' finals drought into another year, but would also be their third defeat of the season by one wicket.
Kangaroo Flat's Tim Robertson (19 n.o.) and Shane Harling (4 n.o.) have already put on 22 for the last wicket after the Roos had been 9-41 and will be trying to thwart the Demons' finals dream.
"One wicket... it's a nervous proposition," White Hills captain Daniel Larke said.
"Hopefully, we can have one of these tight games go our way for once after we lost to Bendigo and Golden Square by one wicket both times earlier in the season.
"We want to get this last wicket as early as we can and win the game and then we've done all we can do."
Heading into Saturday's enthralling final day of the home and away season, Strathdale-Maristians, Eaglehawk, Huntly-North Epsom and White Hills are jostling to join Golden Square and Bendigo United in the finals.
