A DRIVING force behind National Red Balloon Day, Craig Hamilton has given up many hours over the past five weeks.
But the Violet Town resident does not mind.
"The volunteer firefighters give up more time and risk more than what I would be able to ever do," he said.
"What I have done is minuscule compared with what they give up."
Mr Hamilton took on the role of fire services liaison officer - a vital part of the foundation's committee.
He was responsible for encouraging fire services across the country to get on board with the campaign.
Mr Hamilton said he was pleased with how far the initiative had progressed.
"We hope to keep it going for next year," he said.
"For something that started five weeks ago, we are really pleased with the reach we have achieved.
"It is amazing and has proved our concept."
Mr Hamilton said the committee hoped to raise more money and awareness next year.
The inaugural National Red Balloon Day took place on February 28 - the last day of the fire season.
It aimed to recognise the efforts of firies in Australia.
