Junior stars play-off in Bendigo

BASKETBALLERS from across the state played in the Victoria Country Junior Championships in Bendigo across the weekend. 

More than 2000 players, coaches and family members converged on the city. 

The best country Victorian under-16 and under-18 players took part in the tournament. 

The best-placed Bendigo team was the boys under-18 division one team, reaching the semi-final against Wodonga. 

In the grand final Traralgon defeated Wodonga 41-27. 

In the under-18 boys division two final, Ballarat defeated Corio Bay 56-52. 

Southern Peninsula defeated Shepparton 44-24 in the girls under-18 division one final. Maffra won division two by the closest of margins, defeating Wangaratta 47-46.  

In the under-16 division one boys final Mildura defeated Ballarat 45-34 and Moe won in division two. 

Mildura defeated Mt Gambier in the girls under-16 division one competition and Traralgon defeated Wodonga 47-40 in division two.
