Traffic is down to one lane in both directions in Golden Square and Kangaroo Flat.
VicRoads regional director Mal Kersting thanked motorists for their patience and asked them to factor in an extra 10 to 15 minutes' travel time until the completion of works, expected by Friday 28 February (weather permitting).
The $650,000 works program was to replace parts of the highway’s surface with new asphalt, he said.
"The completed works will help prolong the highway’s life and make it smoother and more durable to cater for the increase in vehicles that use this route," he said.
The works are being done between 6.30am and 4pm each day.
