Howes teamed with Glenroy's Judy Stainton to win the Over-60s Women's Pairs at the Darebin International Sports Centre.
Howes and Stainton were too good for Audrey Hele and Patty Whorlow in the final, winning 18-8.
Meanwhile, Bendigo-raised Nathan Wilson won last night's men's singles final.
Wilson fought back brilliantly from 13-10 down to defeat former world No.2 Brett Wilkie.
It's back-to-back Open triumphs for the Wilsons as Nathan's brother Aaron won a year ago.
