Department of Environment and Primary Industries and Parks Victoria crews from Bendigo and surrounding towns have been sent to fight fires near Orbost.
DEPI Murray Goldfields district manager Steve Nicholson said the first task force of 18 firefighters returned on Tuesday.
He said another task force of 20 firefighters left for Gippsland on February 17.
"Last week our firefighters were back burning off Bonang Road as part of efforts to get the Goongerah - Deddick fire under control," he said.
"The terrain is quite different to that of central Victoria with dense bush land and huge old trees.
"The DEPI and Parks Murray Goldfields firefighters are putting their skills to great use working with other agencies including the Country Fire Authority and Victoria Police.
"We know that if we needed assistance in central Victoria, firefighters from other parts of the state would come to assist so we're happy to help wherever we can."
