The Bendigo Magistrates' Court heard Daniel Holmes, 23, had approached his then girlfriend asking for drugs he believed were owed to him.
Prosecution stated that on December 8 last year, Holmes located the victim at a caravan park in Eppalock.
Holmes approached the victim's caravan and knocked on the door with the shotgun.
He went on to break the glass window with the gun and raised the shotgun to the victim's face before saying "give me my s***".
When the victim tried to tell Holmes that she didn't have the drugs, he said to her "I have nothing left, I could kill you".
The court heard Holmes later left and placed the shotgun in a drain at Mount Macedon.
He made several phone calls to police before handing himself in.
The court heard he later took police to where the loaded shotgun was located.
In a subsequent interview, Holmes admitted to attending the caravan park but denied entering the caravan or threatening the victim.
He also denied the shotgun was loaded at the time.
He faces multiple charges including aggravated burglary with intent to assault, threat to kill, reckless conduct and placing a person at risk of death.
Defence counsel George Vassis said Holmes had already spent three months in custody.
He said Holmes was remorseful for the act.
"He knew the victim was affected by and using ice," Mr Vassis said.
"He had alleged that $4000 worth of ice had gone missing and he wasn't thinking rationally."
Magistrate Richard Wright granted Holmes bail on the basis he was returning to a supportive family, was young, and was voluntarily attending regular psychiatric intervention.
Holmes was bailed to attend a committal mention in Bendigo on March 5.
