BENDIGO is the first regional town to be featured on a statewide bike-route website.
Cycle Atlas, dubbed "the google maps of cycling", is the brain child of Bendigo’s Jason Stirling and Melbourne’s David Fletcher.
The website maps hundreds of cycling routes across the state, with Bendigo chosen as the first regional town to be included.
Following the site launch last year, the City of Greater Bendigo and Bendigo Cycle Tourism have now partnered with Cycle Atlas to help develop the digital portal for cycling.
The council's tourism manager Kathryn Mackenzie said the high quality information on the website would help people discover what’s on offer in the region.
She said while Bendigo’s core tourism brand strengths are food and wine, culture and heritage, cycling was a fast growing market segment for the region.
“We are really keen to win more of the lucrative growing cycling tourism sector," she said.
The website has attracted nationwide interest and features rides from 5km to 180km. It includes colour-coded difficulty ratings, photos, videos and several recommended cafes on the route.
