Police say two trees were lit outside residences, there was another fire on the nature strip in front of Eaglehawk Secondary College and another in a garden at the school.
The fires were about 500 meters apart.
Detective Senior Constable Michael Thompson said police wanted to speak to the owner of a dark-coloured commodore.
"It was spotted in the area and might be related, we're not sure," he said.
"It had green p-plates."
Police believe all fires were linked.
The incidents occurred about 4.45pm.
