Chris Sasse said people who are sexually active should book in for a health check every year.
"If you have a family GP and you are comfortable to see them, you could see a GP," she said.
"There is an easy test for young people that requires people to pass a specimen of urine.
"Another option is the sexual health nurses that work at Bendigo Community Health services.
"Then there are men's health nurses who can organise (an appointment) with young men if they are not comfortable with seeing a female nurse."
Ms Sasse said said free condoms were available at Bendigo Community Health.
She said chlamydia was the most common sexually transmitted infection reported in Bendigo.
She said her practice treated cases each week.
