The fire started about 10.50am in Schumakers Lane, about 500 metres north of the Calder Highway.
About the same time, police believe a dark colored sedan, possibly a blue BMW, was alerting residents of the area to the fire.
The fire burnt out about seven hectares of scrub and grassland and damaged fencing.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
Investigators want to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on the day or wish to pass on any information.
