Bendigo police Inspector Michael Talbot said the men callously injured two police officers who were simply doing their jobs.
Police got out of their vehicle and approached the 4WD, which then sped off.
The officer returned to his sedan and as he did, he observed the Toyota perform a u-turn a short distance away and accelerated at high speed on the opposite side of the road, driving at the police car.
The Toyota hit the police sedan, pushing it several metres off the road and into a fence before driving off towards Trentham.
Both police members inside the vehicle were injured.
Detective Senior Constable Brian Hansen from the Macedon Ranges Crime Investigation Unit said the officers were "still sore" and "still off work" although both had been released from hospital.
"Anything of this nature is quite traumatic," he said.
He said the rest of the force had banded together to support the two members.
The vehicle, a silver 1999 Toyota Landcruiser wagon, was stolen from Wells Street, Seaford on January 12.
It was towing a stolen trailer which was carrying a stolen all-terrain vehicle at the time police intercepted it.
These items were stolen from a business in Wiltshire Lane, Delacombe earlier that morning.
Police have released images of two men they believe could assist with their inquiries.
The driver is perceived to be of Middle Eastern appearance, about 35 years old, 183 centimetres tall, solid/muscular, clean-shaven with a round face.
He was wearing a dark baseball cap with red writing.
The passenger is described to be of Middle Eastern appearance, about 55 years old, 172 centimetres tall, thin with short grey curly hair.
