The 3BO presenter broadcast his last show yesterday after he accepted a job with Triple M in Brisbane.
Hargreaves will take up the position of sports producer which will involve AFL coverage.
He will also work as an assistant music director and coordinate the station's social media.
With just over a year of real-industry experience, Hargreaves said his pathway into radio had been a long one.
Hargreaves worked in sales at Southern Cross Austereo before attending radio school in Sydney.
After doing some work experience at stations around the state he was offered a job at 3BO - "a dream come true".
"Being born and raised in Bendigo, I loved to be able to show people what was happening around the city," he said.
"It was a privilege to start my career with 3BO and is something I will never forget."
Hargreaves said radio was a difficult industry to get into but said it was worth the effort.
"As a teenager all I wanted to do was work at a metro radio station," he said.
"There are lots of career pathways for people to get into radio.
"If people are really interested they should get in touch with the station and they will point them in the right direction."
Hargreaves said he would leave Bendigo with mixed emotions but said he would never rule out returning to his home town.
"I want to thank 3BO for giving me the chance to be who I am," he said.
