JANETTE Gogler is helping ensure the new Bendigo Hospital is fitted with the latest in technology.
Ms Gogler is Bendigo Health's chief nursing information officer - a new role in the organisation and a new concept to Australia.
"Large overseas health services have chief nursing information officers to assist in the clinical information system requirements, an area that is growing as health embraces the technology," Ms Gogler said.
"I am registered nurse - I have done the professional journey from paediatric nursing, through to nursing education and then health informatics.
"I studied health informatics at Monash University and have worked in that field for over a decade implementing ICT’s in health, clinical information systems, change management, telehealth remote patient monitoring ... with the new hospital the intention is to roll out electronic medical record so that is one of the domains of the chief nursing officer in terms of looking at what technology and how that works with the nursing work-flow and guiding the nurses through that transformation process.
"So I'll be looking at clinical work flows and involving nurses in the selection of computer devices that fit in with their work flow and then redesigning that as necessary for the new hospital build."
Ms Gogler said playing a part in the multi-million new Bendigo Hospital project was very exciting.
"Having been involved in a new hospital build before I think Bendigo health is a appropriate size for achieving the goal of opening a new hospital will very little paper," she said.
"Also, a new build enables more modern technologies to be established.
"Being involved at this level with innovation is a great opportunity for my career.

"I am particularly interested In contributing to the health informatics space in Australia by publishing aspects of our EMR implementation."
Ms Gogler relocated from Melbourne to Bendigo to start work at Bendigo Health on January 13.
"I've relocated here with my teenage daughter who's a triathlete," Ms Gogler said.
"So she's very excited about being here and being able to increase her cycling skills around Bendigo.
"We both love it here - we thrive on the warm weather, we don't mind the heat."
