Family Drug Support will host Stepping Stones to Success in Bendigo over two weekends on March 1 and 2 and March 15 and 16 from 9.30am to 4pm.
The course aims to increase people’s confidence and competence in managing drug issues and provides a reality-based approach that addresses self-care and self-worth.
Bridging The Divide project officer Michael Miller said when someone in the family was abusing drugs and alcohol, everyone suffered.
"The course is designed for family, friends, partners, siblings, anyone who is dealing or trying to cope with a family member who is using alcohol or drugs," he said.
"These are the people who are struggling with that usage.
"We go through the various stages that families experience when someone's using - initially it might be denial that it's taking place and then moving through to stages of guilt and shame and the stigma associated with drug usage.
"Families can become very isolated."
Mr Miller said any family, at any time, could be affected by drug dependency.
"No one sets out to be on this journey," he said.
"One day it can appear and it can deteriorate very quickly."
